Arts Professor

cari ann shim sham* is here to move things. She is a web3 artist who’s recently joined the techspressionists and works with AI as oracle. She’s exhibited with Kingsborough Art Museum, Loop Art Critique, Li Ting Gallery, NFTBali, Superlative Gallery, Las Lagunas Art, and her artwork is in the permanent collection of the Mud Foundation. She practices morphic embodiment, is currently developing an AI choreographer, creating a generative XR visual album with joey zaza, making generative dances, generative art & archiving performance on the blockchain. Her work has shown at notable venues such as Cannes, United Nations General Assembly, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Samsung Developers Conference, Future of Storytelling, Jacob's Pillow, REDCAT, & BAM among others.
Making films, music videos, and video art since the 90’s, she is a recipient of two Telly Awards with four of her dance films in the Routeledge Performance Archive and is the first video artist to redesign Rauschenberg's 'Shiner' for "Set & Reset, Reset" by the Trisha Brown company. She was recently featured in Dance Magazine for her long term collaboration with David Roussève as a filmmaker and video artist for Roussève | Reality. Her live projection mapping and interactive video art work for Fractal Memories by Time Lapse Dance ensemble, alongside joey zaza’s magic stack media, is at the heart of the new feature documentary film about Loïe Fuller, Obsessed with Light (2023). As a web3 artist her work is found on the Tezos and Ethereum blockchains. Currently in exhibition is her cyber feminist work “black and white- a man ray redux v1” alongside her generative art project and film, "body landscapes". Her new ai collection ~ body waves ~ will premiere at the Contemporary Art Museum of Uzbekistan in the fall of 2025, with some possible sneak previews this spring & summer.
Curating for over 3 decades, she’s programmed, produced, and directed film, music, dance & technology festivals, always advocating for a free submission process. She is co-founder and curator with joey zaza for the Museum of Wild and Newfangled Art, mowna.org, an online digital art museum that pays its artists and she helped developed an AI curator biased for equity, inclusion, and diversity, for the mowna exhibit This Show is Curated by a Machine.
In the web3 space, cari ann has curated for Objkt.one, the largest art market on the Tezos blockchain, for the Here & Now Antidote Festival and the generative art platform fx(hash).
cari ann is in service as a Full Arts Professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she teaches creative coding, filming the moving body, and video art for bodies in motion among other things.
She is a free diver, wild mushroom hunter, healing hedge witch, and nature worshiper certified in Family Systemic Constellation Therapy.
